Welcome to the website that honors the men of the ground crews who kept the B-17s of the 385th Heavy Bomb Group at Great Ashfield flying and fighting.

These un-sung heroes worked day and night repairing flak damage received over France and Germany. They loaded bombs and 50 cal. ammunition so the airmen would have a chance to sally forth on many combat missions. Always looking for "their" bomber to return successfully from a mission.

Once home from a combat mission, the ground crews repaired engines - placed patches over holes in the bomber - made major repairs when a bomber barely made it back to base with parts of the B-17 missing - and yes - often cleaning the bomber of blood from a wounded - or KIA airman!

This site is being built to honor the men of the Ground Crews and others. Please send any and all info and photos you have of these men, as I need more to fill the site. Your cooperation is sorely needed. Thank you!

And don't forget: before you go, please sign the guest book Thanks!
